Ground Beef Casserole – Hearty, Cheesy, and Easy
This ground beef casserole is a comfort food classic, packed with savory hamburger meat, tender pasta, onions, peppers, and a rich tomato sauce—all crowned with melted cheddar cheese. It’s a satisfying, weeknight-friendly meal that your whole family will love!
Ingredients
- 2 cans (15 oz each) tomato sauce
- 1 large white onion, diced
- 1 package (8 oz) egg noodles
- 1 cup sour cream
- 1 package (3 oz) cream cheese
- 1 lb ground beef
- ½ cup shredded sharp Cheddar cheese (or more to taste)
- 1 tsp garlic salt
- 1 tsp salt
- 1 tsp white sugar

Cook the beef:
Heat a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add the ground beef and cook until browned and crumbly. Drain any excess grease. -
Add seasoning and sauce:
Stir in garlic salt, salt, and tomato sauce. Mix well, then let simmer for 20 minutes. Remove from heat and cover. -
Prepare the noodles:
In a large pot, bring salted water to a boil. Cook the egg noodles until al dente, then drain and rinse under cold water to stop cooking. -
Preheat oven:
Set your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9×13-inch casserole dish with cooking spray. -
Mix creamy layer:
In a bowl, combine diced onion, sour cream, and cream cheese until smooth. -
Assemble the casserole:
- Layer half of the noodles on the bottom of the casserole dish.
- Spread half of the sour cream mixture over the noodles.
- Top with half of the beef mixture.
- Repeat the layers.

Sprinkle shredded Cheddar generously over the top. -
Bake:
