Ingredients

  • 2 cans (15 oz each) tomato sauce
  • 1 large white onion, diced
  • 1 package (8 oz) egg noodles
  • 1 cup sour cream
  • 1 package (3 oz) cream cheese
  • 1 lb ground beef
  • ½ cup shredded sharp Cheddar cheese (or more to taste)
  • 1 tsp garlic salt
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1 tsp white sugar

Instructions

  1. Cook the beef:
Heat a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add the ground beef and cook until browned and crumbly. Drain any excess grease.
  2. Add seasoning and sauce:
Stir in garlic salt, salt, and tomato sauce. Mix well, then let simmer for 20 minutes. Remove from heat and cover.
  3. Prepare the noodles:
In a large pot, bring salted water to a boil. Cook the egg noodles until al dente, then drain and rinse under cold water to stop cooking.
  4. Preheat oven:
Set your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9×13-inch casserole dish with cooking spray.
  5. Mix creamy layer:
In a bowl, combine diced onion, sour cream, and cream cheese until smooth.
  6. Assemble the casserole:
    • Layer half of the noodles on the bottom of the casserole dish.
    • Spread half of the sour cream mixture over the noodles.
    • Top with half of the beef mixture.
    • Repeat the layers.
  7. Add cheese topping:
Sprinkle shredded Cheddar generously over the top.
  8. Bake:
Bake in the preheated oven for 25 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and bubbly.
  9. Serve and enjoy:
Remove from oven, let cool slightly, then serve warm.
